Cal had nine athletes in the U23 and U19 championships.
Waris, Italy – The U-23 and U-19 Junior World Championships ended on Sunday and the final day was attended by several members of the Cal men’s rowing team. The three Golden Bears made strong contributions to their respective countries with a total of nine athletes winning domestic medals.
The medal earner was Cal Rover. campbell crouch, angus dawsonAnd Jamie Arnoldwhereas Friedrich Breuer And Leonard Brahmo Missed the podium in a very hard race, finished fourth.
“I’m thrilled that we had such a great contingent of Cal Orsman Racing in the U23 and U19 World Championships; they all represented their countries and the Cal Golden Bears very well,” said the head coach scott fransen, “It’s a great sign of where our program is going and I’m excited for Campbell, Angus and Jamie to lead the charge with medals in 4- and 8+.”
Junior Crouch from Waikato, New Zealand helped the Kiwis win a silver in the Coxless Four. In the Grand Final, New Zealand took boats from Australia, Romania, Great Britain, Italy and Ireland. Crouch helped his team finish in third place with a time of 6:05.86, well ahead of third-placed Ireland.
Men’s eight. In angus dawson And Jamie Arnold Bronze won for Australia in a tight Grand Final that included Great Britain, the United States, Poland, Germany and Romania. In a blistering 500-metre final, the Aussies finished third with a time of 5:54.90, just behind top finishers Great Britain and the United States. Dawson sat in six seats with Arnold in the bow for Australia.
In four Grand Finals, Kell’s pair of Breuer and Brahms missed out on a medal when Germany finished fourth with a time of 6:09.46. Germany ran a stunning final at 500 meters to capture the bronze almost from sixth. Breuer sat in the Stroke seat with Brahms on two seats.
Also competing in the U23 World Champions was All-American. Gennaro Di Mauro For Italy, incoming Golden Bears Emilio Pappletera for Italy, Pablo Moreno for Spain, and Will Dutchman lined up for the United States in the U-19 Championship.
