“Shuga” Shane Sexton finished 14th at Paris Auto Speedway Returns to top 20 in points

After nearly five months of action rocking the 410 cobweb, “Shuga” Shane Sexton returned to USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series competition at Paris Auto Speedway last Saturday night. The affable driver started 19th in the 30-lap main event and went on to finish 14th.

Driving a new gas chassis, Sexton timed with a lap of 17.187 and competed in the third 10-lap heat race. After a disappointing seventh-place finish in the heat, the Warner Springs, California driver moved up to 19th to start the 30-lap main event. He overcame all the confusion on the track and carried on throughout the race. When Steve Russell’s checkered flag stopped the proceedings at the end of the 30th lap, “Shuga” was in 14th place.

As the race progressed, Sexton was elevated to the series championship point standings. To be precise, he moved from 21st to 19th, moving on to the next race on October 8 at Mohave Valley Raceway in Arizona. Sexton’s only other appearance on the track, which is located just minutes from the Colorado River and only 20 minutes from Laughlin, was a prosper. After qualifying 22nd fastest and finishing eighth in his heat on April 22, Sexton finished 21st in the main and advanced nine positions to finish 12th on the race 1/3 mile oval.

Sexton was due to be back on track with the USAC/CRA Series in Paris on 1 October, but that race has been cancelled. As mentioned earlier, he will return to action in the Mohave Valley. The young driver will then complete his 410 sprint car season with five races over nine days. The first two dates are October 28 and 29 at the 55th annual Chapman Chevrolet of the Yuma Western World Championships at Cocopa Speedway, Arizona. This will be followed by the 26th annual Heimark Anheuser Busch Budweiser Oval Nationals at Paris Auto Speedway on November 3, 4 and 5.
