7. Alien vs Predator: Requiem (2007)
A follow-up to the first 2007 crossover film, Alien vs Predator: Requiem is dirty. The story is actually fairly straightforward: the Predator ship from the first film crashes into a small Colorado town, unleashing the poorly named Pradelion (a hybrid alien and Predator) on an unsuspecting population.
The simple setup is thwarted by poor acting and even worse directing. The film’s lighting is so bad that many scenes are almost black. While this film upped the gore from the previous crossover film, it comes across as gross and unnecessarily sharp. The film was directed by the Brothers Strauss (that’s how they credit themselves), who previously had music videos for Linkin Park, Stan, and other angsty bands. Unfortunately, teenage angst didn’t turn into intergalactic horror.
6. Cruel (2018)
After starring and working as a script doctor in the first film, Shane Black returned to the franchise in 2018. Cruel, Black has an impressive filmography, having directed nice people, kiss Kiss Bang Bang, iron Man 3 and written lethal WeaponBut his skill behind the camera could not save this film.
The plot is complicated. A soldier approaches a crashed Predator ship and steals some technology. He then sends the alien Gear back to his home, where his autistic son intercepts him. A group of soldiers suffering from various stress-related issues come together to rescue the child, who has been targeted by poachers.
If this plot sounds confusing, that’s because it is. The film was plagued with reshoots, and much of the film’s original plot was excised.
Further complicating the matter was that Black cast a sex offender friend of his in a small role in the film. Star Olivia Munney, who shared a scene with this actor, found out shortly before the film’s release and voiced against the casting, which prompted the studio to make even more cuts at the last minute. Black later apologizes to Munn.

The film had a troubled history, with several scripts and directors getting on board before they could. Finally, Paul WS Anderson, famous for directing several films domestic wicked films, were able to bring the film into production.
While fans were skeptical, especially given its PG-13 rating (the only film in any series not to be rated R), the end result is… well. The film certainly delivers on the title, with a story involving hidden, underground pyramids and trapped human scientists in Antarctica. This movie is dumb, but unlike its sequels, it’s properly lit, so viewers can actually watch the aliens and predators fight.

This 1990 film is set in the distant future of 1997, where Los Angeles is suffering from a severe heat wave.
