ponniyin selvanThe first song titled Ponni Nadhi has been released. The Ponni Nadhi song elevates the Kaveri River (aka Ponni), which was the main reason for the prosperity of the Chola Empire. The song is likely to be set at the beginning of the film, when Vallavarayan Vandhiyatheva (played by Karthi) travels through the Chola land to secretly carry a message from Aditya Karikalan (Vikram).

The song begins with a wonderful line praising the land of the Cholas: “Neer saatham kettadhum nel puthu nikkum, uli saatham kettadhum kal puthu nikkum, pagai saatham kettathum vil puthu nikkum, chojathin perumai kura sol puthu nikkum.” The line can be loosely translated, “At the sound of water, the paddy will bloom. The sound of the chisel will make the stones bloom. Will shoot arrows at the enemy’s voice. And to praise the land of the Cholas, the words themselves will bloom. Composed by AR Rahman, the song is lively and energetic.
