Sacramento – Supporting economic growth and opportunity, Governor Gavin Newsom today announced the signing of legislation to promote small businesses and encourage employee entrepreneurship.
The bills signed today will be:

Codify the 25% small business target for state procurement and increase the ability of state agencies to include small and under-served businesses in state contracts.

Provide assistance to transfer the business to employee ownership.
-
Allow nonprofit theaters and radio stations to sell alcoholic beverages during live events.

Let craft distillers ship directly to consumers.
-
Establish grant programs to support the performing arts through payroll reimbursement.
-
Strengthen franchise security to level the playing field and combat discrimination.
“California has invested billions of dollars in helping small businesses and entrepreneurs achieve their California Dream,” Governor Newsom said. “These new laws build on our efforts to create a more inclusive economy with new opportunities for innovation and growth for the nation’s largest small business community. I am the leader of the legislature and the backbone of our economy to help thrive Thank you for doing it.”
