Marvel upgrades the Armor Wars series to a movie

Marvel Studios’ Armor Wars series is being turned into a full-length film.

According to sources, the studio was committed to telling the story the right way and in that process realized that a feature was better suited for the project. Like all Marvel movies, this one is for theatrical release.

Armor Wars stars Don Cheadle, who will reprise his role as Colonel James “Roddy” Rhodes, aka War Machine. Yasir Lester, who was the series’ lead writer, will remain the film’s writer. As of now, no director has been officially associated with the film.

Little is known about the upcoming film, but Armor Wars will likely be based on issue seven of the Iron Man story written by David Michelini and Bob Layton. The original story centered on the idea of various armor suits falling into the wrong hands. The initial series Avengers: Endgame was also set to address the aftermath of Tony Stark’s death.

This isn’t the first time Marvel has pursued development of a title in this way. Hawkeye was originally conceived as a feature film before turning into a Disney+ series.

No release date has been added for the new film, but it will likely be determined during the recently announced Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Cheadle’s next Marvel appearance will be in Secret Assault. Covert Assault stars Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn and is set to debut in 2023.
