India on Monday reported 16,464 new cases of Covid-19, taking the tally to 44,036,275. With 39 new deaths, of which Kerala resolved 15, the death toll from the coronavirus in the country has reached 526,396. The number of recovered COVID cases has now reached 43,365,890 with 16,112 new cases. India on Sunday gave 834,167 shots of the Kovid vaccine, taking the total number of vaccinations to 2,043,403,676.

The Center has constituted a task force to look into the cases of monkeypox in India, which will provide surveillance and guidance to the government to expand diagnostic facilities and find out vaccination for the infection in the country. “The team will be headed by Dr VK Paul, Member (Health) of NITI Aayog and members including Secretary, Union Health Ministry, Pharma and Biotech,” ANI quoted sources as saying.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut in a money laundering case related to alleged irregularities in the redevelopment of a ‘chawl’ in Mumbai. Raut, 60, was arrested after over six hours of questioning at the ED’s zonal office in South Mumbai’s Ballard Estate. Officials claimed that he was detained at 12:05 am on Monday under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) as he was not cooperating in the investigation.

Seven fresh rounds of bidding, held on Sunday, the sixth day of the auction, raised Rs 163 crore, taking the cumulative spectrum sales to over Rs 1.5 trillion.
