Hollywood icon Cary Grant will be brought to life by? harry potter Star Jason Isaacs in ITV and Britbox International’s upcoming biographical drama.
According to time limitThe title of the four-part series will be Archie, named after Grant’s birth, Archibald Alexander Leach. It will be written and executive produced by Stan and Ollie Produced by ITV Studios for writer Jeff Pope and the network’s soon-to-launch streamer ITVX.
Archie Grant’s journey to superstardom, beginning with a childhood spent in extreme poverty in Bristol, England, where he struggled with his father’s adultery and the death of his older brother, John. It would follow Grant as he joined the music hall act The Bob Pender Troupe before moving to the US, where he transformed into Cary Grant, an Oscar-nominated leading man and star of more than 70 films.
“There was only one Cary Grant, and I would never be a fool to try to step into his iconic shoes,” said Isaacs (via) time limit) “On the other hand, Archie Leach couldn’t be further from the character he invented to protect himself.”
Highlighting his formative years and rise to fame, the series will also include scenes from 1961, at the height of Grant’s fame, when his personal life was falling apart after two failed marriages. However, he would eventually woo TV star Witch Cannon, who was 30 years younger than him, and the pair married in 1965. Grant retired from film acting a year later.
“Cary Grant became one of the most iconic figures of the twentieth century, a darling of presidents and paupers,” the pope said. “The key to everything was in his childhood.” Pope received the blessings of Grant’s daughter Jennifer Grant and ex-wife Cannon, who described the script as “intelligent, sensible” and “capturing”.
