New Delhi: A new category of autos is all set to hit the Indian roads soon, which can be used interchangeably as two-wheeler and three-wheeler. Paving the way for production of such “combo” automobiles, the Ministry of Road Distribution has hosted a draft Automobile Industry Standard (AIS) for approval requirement of its kind on its web site and sought feedback from stakeholders.
Any car style can also be manufactured on the market and once registration is most effective it will be approved by the federal government to try out businesses from a recognized car.
In February 2020, Hero MotoCorp, India’s largest two-wheeler maker, showcased an idea car “Quark 1”, which could be similar to the proposed “electric power train vehicle of category L2-5”, for which the draft AIS The criteria have been exposed. Sources said any car company can manufacture such cars as soon as the AIS norms are notified.
These automobiles will meet the dual requirements of two wheelers and three wheelers and can be used for both private or industrial purposes, the resources mentioned. As per the draft notification, mixed vehicles can be electric ones. Though it is a removable sum of a two wheeler and a three wheeler, there can be an unmarried registration amount for both the vehicles. But each of the “combo vehicles” will have two number plates, one within the entrance and the other in the rear of the car.
This class of auto is more likely to cater to the need of a larger collection of people as it is going to give the option of using it as both two or three wheeler. For example, in congested places, homeowners can disassemble the three-wheeler part and use it as a two-wheeler. “If someone runs a shop or a small business unit, he can use it as a three wheeler to carry goods. At work, he can disassemble the two-wheeler and use it for commuting. It could be a new solution to urban mobility,” noted a supply.
The draft AIS is normally placed within the public domain as the proposed criteria were once licensed through an apex technical committee constituted by the federal government that recommends new car requirements and criteria to meet the changed requirements. The committee includes contributors from the center, executive licensed businesses and representatives from the car trade.
Considering the draft criteria, an inflexible body or chassis of a two-wheeled car with inflexible body or chassis of a non-self-propelled rear module unit to shape the integrated inflexible body of a three-wheeled car can be added. ,
