He said the Pear would feature a “truly revolutionary electrical architecture” with a central computing system replacing many of the electronic control units.
The wraparound windshield is “difficult, but will make it into production”, Fisker said.
He estimated that his company would manufacture a “minimum” of 250,000 pears annually once the Lordstown plant reaches full capacity.
Given Foxconn and Fiskers’ limited vehicle production experience, the ramp-up of the Pear will be much more difficult than that of the Ocean.
Foxconn, known for making Apple’s iPhones, last year showed off two electric concepts it said it would build for new automotive customers, one for Taiwan’s Yulon Motor.
Fisker’s partnership with Magna Steyr for the Ocean has ensured an externally smooth route for production of the company’s first vehicle, which was installed in 2016.
Fisker said Magna had built 55 prototypes before the car went into production in November.
Fisker has 56,000 reservations and 5,000 pre-orders for the car, for which customers paid a non-refundable deposit, Fisker said.
The first variant of the SUV will be the Ocean One launch model, with prices starting at $68,999.
The more affordable Ocean Sport, which starts at $37,500, will be available from the third quarter of 2023, Fisker said.
