The Esports Federation of India (ESFI) on Sunday hosted a grand farewell ceremony for the Indian contingent participating in the Commonwealth Esports Championship for the first time. The inaugural multi-nation esports tournament organized by the Commonwealth Games and the Global Esports Federation is scheduled to be held in Birmingham from 6 August to 7 August.
Members of Dota 2 and Rocket League, who will represent the country at the prestigious event, Lokesh Suji, Director ESFI and VP-Asian Esports Federation, along with Satinder Sikri (VP-Haryana Esports Association) and Yash were present on the occasion. Bhalawala (General Sec-Esports Association of Gujarat) at the INOX Insignia at Ardi Mall, Gurgaon.
ESFI also unveiled the official kit of the Indian team for the Commonwealth Esports Championship during the event.
“Esports is like every other sport and we wanted to make sure that we bid farewell to our Indian contingent in the best possible way before the big event. We are grateful to INOX for helping us organize this wonderful farewell ceremony. The rise of Esports in India over the years has been truly remarkable and the participation of two teams from the nation on the global stage is a result of that. “We are honored and super excited to be a part of this inaugural Commonwealth Esports Championship and it is highly likely that esports will be a medal sport at the next Commonwealth Games in 2026,” Suzy said.

Both the teams have already proved their worth by securing impressive victories in the South Asian regional qualifiers of the tournament last month.

The players also participated in an enlightening sports psychology session “Building High-Performance Mindset” by Mitesh Jain (Founder & Chief Sports Psychologist – Mandeha). It included mental exercises and activities for the players to improve focus, mental skills, confidence, motivation and communication skills.
This was followed by a special film screening for the players as they enjoyed and rested before their long journey. The Indian contingent left for Birmingham early in the morning on 1 August 2022.
The 2022 Commonwealth Esports Championship will be held at the International Convention Center in Birmingham with the presence of the world’s top esports teams. Along with DOTA2 and Rocket League, PES2022 will also be part of the tournament.
