The Midland County Elections Office is looking for bilingual workers to help vote early.

Inauguration on city boards, commissions

Eight seats are available (due to expiration or vacancies) on the City of Midland Board and Commission.

The city council began making appointments for the new fiscal year in September. Most of the terms will start on October 1. Terms typically vary from two to four years. A complete list of Boards/Commissions, along with the meeting schedule, is attached to the application form and can be accessed on the city’s website.

Applications are available at the City Secretary’s Office, Room 330, City Hall, 685-7441. Applications can also be downloaded from the city’s website at www.midlandtexas.gov (select Government, and then click Boards and Commissions). The last date for application is Tuesday at 5 pm.

Following is the list of remaining Boards/Commissions which have open seats:

  • Midland – Odessa Urban Transit District Board – 1 seat,
  • Parks and Recreation Commission – 2 Posts,
  • Zoning Board of Adjustment and Airport Zoning Board of Adjustment – 1 seat and 4 alternate seats.

Midland Association of Retired School Personnel

The Midland Association of Retired School Personnel will host its next meeting on Thursday at First Baptist Church, 2104 W. Louisiana Ave.

Senior Life Midland’s Texas Size Garage Sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. October 7-8 and 11-12 at 407 E. Scherbauer Drive.

Scholarship for Writers Workshop

Students in West Texas high schools, colleges and the University of Texas Permian Basin, as well as four English teachers or qualified youth, will have “full-ride scholarships” at the annual Writers’ Workshop on October 8-9. at Midland College.

MLK program for kids

The City of Midland Parks and Recreation will host new events for kids beginning October 3 at the MLK Center, 2300 Butternut Lane.

they include:

  • Monday: 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. game nights for ages 6-14. We will have a variety of board games for kids to play.
  • Thursdays: Arts and Crafts for ages 6-14 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.;
  • Wednesday: Story time for Tots at 11 a.m.

Each event will cost $1 to attend and can be paid for at the front desk upon arrival.

  • League of Women Voters – MISD on October 6th, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., and City of Midland 6:45 to 7:45 p.m. inside the Carrasco Room.
  • Basin PBS on October 11, 13 and 17. The debate will be broadcast – MISD School Board from 7-8:30 pm on October 11, Mayor’s Forum October 13 from 7-8 pm and Midland City Council October 7 – 17 at 8 pm.
  • Forums will take place on October 17 and 19 at the Midland Republican National Hispanic Assembly. MISD candidates will visit Springhill Suites, 5716 Deauville Blvd. from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The Midland City Council Forum will take place on 19 October from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (Mayor) and 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. (District 4).
