Berkshire Youth, Tylehurst Parish Council and MNR Coaching are running summer sports sessions for children

Free play sessions run throughout the summer at Tilehurst are already proving popular with local kids.

Run by Berkshire Youth, Tylehurst Parish Council and MNR Coaching, the ‘Sports in the Park’ sessions encourage youth to try their hand at a variety of sports.

The summer vacation season takes place at three of Tilehurst’s parks for children and youth ages eight and older and will last through the last week of August.

One parent said that the “pleasant” sessions had “a lot of variety” and that they were “encompassing all abilities”.

Another parent said: “The session was really good and there were a lot of people in attendance.

“The staff were really friendly and helpful and the kids were enjoying it.

“There’s a great selection of games throughout the week.”

Sessions take place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, with three sessions each day consisting of several different games in all.

Monday’s offerings include basketball, pillow polo and a step challenge, while Wednesdays include rounders, athletics and dodgeball, and Fridays include archery, tri-golf and football.

Hour-long sessions run between 2 pm and 3 pm at the Cotswold Playgrounds, 3.30 pm and 4.30 pm at Cornwell Center, and between 5 pm and 6 pm at Turnhams Farm Hall.

Those who wish to attend the session can attend any session of their interest and there is no need to book.
