Letiner, the founder of BASF and Girl Gang Garage, both share a passion for promoting diversity in trades. More than 150 women from around the world participated in the historic build, which includes a week-long takeover by seven BASF women.

The project, called Iron Maven, is a 1961 Volvo PV544 retrofitted with a 415-horsepower powertrain and hundreds of other systems, parts and components from the 2021 Volvo S60 T8 Recharge Polestar engineered sedan. Volvo Cars technical support teams based in both the US and Sweden helped with select component and system integrations.

“This opportunity is a dream come true for many women,” said Letiner, owner of Girl Gang Garage. “It takes a lot of courage to go out and try something big that you’ve never done, and these women are doing it. I love seeing each of them realize just how strong and talented they really are.” Huh.”

Letiner, BASF and illustrator Connie Manjavinos created three paint colors that each represent a unique piece of Volvo’s long history:

  • she is sage green – A light green color that matches the color used in Volvo’s first pure electric vehicle, the XC40 Recharge
  • flexible gray – A gray color inspired by the range of options available on current Volvo luxury cars and SUVs
  • Rebel Berry Purple – A purple color that is a modern interpretation of the many purple tones available on Heritage Volvo products throughout the years

“We are excited to see more women pursuing their dreams of working in the trades,” said Tina Nels, Marketing Services Manager, BASF Refinish. “I believe this creation is having a really strong, positive impact on the industry. It is an honor to work with Girl Gang Garage to take this initiative forward and involve more people “
