The upcoming production of The Souk’s “Steel Magnolias” requires six women of different ages.
The action is set at Truvi’s beauty salon in Chinquapin, LA, where all the women who are “anyone” come to get their hair done. Helped by her eager new assistant, Ainelle (who isn’t sure if she’s still married), the outspoken, wise-cracking Truvy town’s wealthy curmudgeon, Ouizer, (“I’m not crazy,”) gets champed and free. Recommend. I have been in a bad mood for 40 years”); an eccentric millionaire, Miss Claire, who has a fiery sweet tooth; and the local social leader, M’Lynn, whose daughter, Shelby (the prettiest girl in town), is about to marry a “good ole boy”.
Auditions will be held on Tuesday, August 16 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, August 20 at 2 p.m., at the Sock Theater, 240 E. Chicago, Jonesville. The audition will involve cold reading from the script. No preparation is necessary. Please bring a list of all protests from August 21 to October. 23. There are roles for six women (ages 19 to 70). Anyone 18 years of age and above can audition for a production. Ron Boyle will direct.
Performances are October 13-15 and October 20-22 at 8 p.m. with matinees on October 16 and 23 at 3 p.m. All performances are held at Souk Theatre, 240 E. Are in Jonesville in Chicago. All tickets are $8-$13. The October 13 performance is a paid one you can preview. Preview tickets are not sold in advance. All senior tickets for the October 20th performance are $5.
