GRAM hosts free summer concerts

The Grand Rapids Art Museum is hosting “Village on the Green,” an outdoor concert for free to the public. The next performance will be held on the outdoor terrace of the museum on August 4 and 11 from 6 pm to 9 pm. The lineup includes music from The Music That Raised Us, The Rachel Brooke Band and The Reverend Jesse Ray. Additionally, attendees can participate in practical art projects and stay for extended hours of the museum.

Glimpses of Africa Festival

Glimpses of Africa is the largest African cultural festival in West Michigan that celebrates Africa’s diverse cultures through food, dance, music and fashion. The event will take place on August 6th from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at Rosa Parks Circle in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The event is free and there will be vendors with food and merchandise for purchase.

Grand Rapids Ballet to perform at Listening Lawn

The Grand Rapids Ballet will have an outdoor performance at Listening Lawn in Grand Rapids from August 19 and 20 beginning at 7 p.m. on both days. The performance will include both contemporary and classical ballet pieces. The event marks the unofficial start of the company’s 2022-23 performance season. Tickets are $25 per person.

GRAM event adds “color” to artwork

GRAM is hosting a gallery chat event on August 6th from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., where museum doctors will guide visitors through the gallery, giving them more information about the artists and their artwork. The doctor will talk about the use of techniques, color and symbolism in art to help give a deeper meaning to what the viewer sees. This event is free with museum admission.

Breakaway Music Festival returns to Grand Rapids for 5th year

The Breakaway Music Festival is set to return to Grand Rapids in downtown Belknap Park from August 19 to 20. The festival highlights musical genres such as pop, EDM and hip-hop. The lineup consists of a total of 14 acts with headliners Two Friends, The Chainsmokers, Yung Gravy and DJ Snake. The event will also feature a silent disco, food trucks and other activities. Tickets start at $104.

Grand Rapids Public Library to host film festival

The Grand Rapids Public Library is set to host its last outdoor movie of the summer on August 5. This family-friendly event will include free refreshments and crafts starting at 8 p.m. and the movie shown, Disney Pixar’s “Moana,” will begin in the evening.
