AJ McLean underwent cosmetic surgery after feeling self-conscious about his appearance.
The 44-year-old singer has revealed that he decided to go under the knife after starring in ‘RuPaul’s Secret Celebrity Drag Race’.
He explained: “Genetically in my family, everyone has extra skin on their necks: my mom, my grandmother, my grandfather, my uncle, my aunt, everybody. And over the years, I grew a beard to hide it. because I was very insecure.
“But the day we shot that episode, I saw how I looked with jawline and Ru told me how beautiful I looked and I got very emotional. It really affected me.”
AJ also revealed that he still faces a “daily struggle” with addiction.
The pop star has battled drug and alcohol issues for the past 25 years, and AJ admits it’s an ongoing battle.
The Backstreet Boys star told People: “I’ve struggled with drugs and alcohol issues for 25 years and in September 2021, I sobered up.
“It’s still a daily struggle, but it allowed me to finally immerse myself in me. And when I walked on set [at ‘RuPaul’s Secret Celebrity Drag Race’]I was very comfortable because there is a huge quiet community out there.
“Even when I was in rehearsal, I had a few meetings, which was phenomenal. I felt like I was at home.”
Meanwhile, AJ recently revealed that he’s in “best shape.” [his] Life” after quitting alcohol.
The chart-topping singer has lost over 30 pounds since quitting alcohol.
He said: “Drinking led to weight gain, but it also lowered my mental state. But now I am in the best shape of my life.
“I would say to myself, ‘I’m going to do this, I’m going to do this. I’m going to be the best version of myself.'”
