Aaron Ramsey: The Wales international midfielder completes a free transfer to Nice following Juventus release. Transfer Center News

Aaron Ramsey has completed his free transfer to Ligue 1 Nice following his release from Juventus.

The Wales international was on loan at Rangers during the second half of last season but his contract with Juventus was mutually terminated last month after three years.

His spell at Ibrox in the Europa League final in Sevilla ended with a heartbreak as midfielder Eintracht missed a decisive penalty in a shootout loss to Frankfurt.

The move comes after his countryman Joe Rodan completed his loan transfer to Rennes earlier on Monday.

The 31-year-old joined Juve on a free transfer in July 2019 and was sent on loan to Rangers last January after making just five appearances in all competitions in the first half of the injury-stricken 2021/22 campaign.

“Aaron Ramsey’s contract with Juventus has been mutually terminated. Best wishes,” the Turin-based club said on Twitter last week.

Ramsey struggled for form and fitness at Juventus, scoring six goals and six assists in 70 games across all competitions.

He became the youngest captain of the Wales national team in 2011 at the age of 20 and earned 75 international caps. Ramsey was part of the Wales team that reached the semi-finals of Euro 2016.

Ramsey’s Juventus adventure ends

Sky Sports’ Jack Wilkinson:

“Ramsey was widely praised for taking the leap to try and play overseas, and it is a decision that has almost certainly been upheld.

“Despite not quite hitting the levels he did in his final season at Arsenal, Ramsey’s first two campaigns at Juventus under Maurizio Sarri and then Andrea Pirlo were successful and the Welshman won Serie A, Coppa Italia and Italian Super Cup titles.

“In fact, Ramsey missed 17 games last season before his Rangers move to Juventus, more than he did in his first two seasons at Juventus.

“Ramsey will undoubtedly look at his time at Juventus, the success that has brought him, and the opportunity to experience a new football culture, but for a player aged 31, and with a good portion of his career, he has not He can give as many times as he has.

“With Juventus removing Ramsey’s huge salary from the salary bill, the move from the club could be one that suits both the club and the player.”
